More Students Working To Avoid Debt Trap!
Many students are leaving university with a staggering amount of debt. Many students borrow the £3,000-plus loan to fund each year of their education and also take advantage of student overdrafts. Once they’ve left university, graduate loans can rack up the debt even further. Recent research shows that many students start work with debts of around £10,000, while 10% of former students carry debts above £20,000.
The National Union of Students (NUS) and Trades Union Congress (TUC) have released a report showing that the number of students working while studying has risen from 406,880 to 630, 718. Ironically, many students have to miss classes so they can work to pay for their education. With many universities now charging top up fees of £1,200 to £1,700, students are likely to have to start work even earlier to pay for their education.
